128 New Santa Clarita Valley Coronavirus Cases Reported, Largest One-Day Increase Since August


128 additional Santa Clarita Valley coronavirus cases have been reported Tuesday, the largest one-day increase in local cases not attributed to a backlog since August.

The new Santa Clarita Valley coronavirus cases were apart of the 2,318 reported cases across Los Angeles County, according to the L.A. County Department of Public Health.

The countywide total now stands at 325,876 with the Santa Clarita Valley coronavirus total reaching 7,753, according to the department.

25 additional deaths were reported Tuesday, bringing the cumulative total in L.A. County to 7,200 deaths, according to public health.

Over 3,282,000 coronavirus tests have been conducted as of Tuesday, with about 9 percent of those tests returning positive.

There are 888 people currently hospitalized with COVID-19 as of Tuesday, 28 percent of which are in the ICU.

The number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 each day increased to over 800 this past week and now nears 900. A month ago in early-October, the daily number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 was between 650 and 725 patients, according to public health.

As of Tuesday, a total of 7,753 cumulative cases of COVID-19 since testing began in March. These include:

  • 4,852 in the City of Santa Clarita*
  • 181 in the unincorporated areas of Canyon Country
  • 2,231 in Castaic*
  • 40 in the unincorporated areas of Saugus
  • 225 in Stevenson Ranch
  • 53 in the unincorporated areas of Valencia
  • 110 in the unincorporated areas of Val Verde
  • 30 in the unincorporated areas of Newhall
  • 10 in the unincorporated areas of Bouquet Canyon
  • 12 in the unincorporated areas of Saugus/Canyon Country
  • Seven in unincorporated Sand Canyon
  • Two in unincorporated San Francisquito Canyon/Bouquet Canyon

*As of Monday, Nov. 9 officials have recorded 1,887 cumulative cases have been reported at the Peter J. Pitchess Detention Center, including 1,366 at the North County Correctional Facility. Those cases are distributed between both the City of Santa Clarita and Castaic totals.

Additionally, 92 cumulative cases were confirmed in nearby Acton as well as 46 in Agua Dulce.

An analysis of available data indicates that as of Monday, Nov. 9,  approximately 24.8 percent of all cumulative cases in and around the Santa Clarita Valley can be attributed to the inmate population at the North County Correctional Facility and the Pitchess Detention Center.

As of Monday, Nov. 9, Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital has conducted 10,786 COVID-19 tests. Of those, 1,104 have tested positive, and four tests are still pending with Henry Mayo, according to Patrick Moody, spokesperson for the hospital.

There are 21 patients in the hospital as of Monday, Nov. 9 while 321 patients have been discharged since the hospital’s first case was reported in March, according to Moody.

33 coronavirus deaths have been reported at Henry Mayo which are a part of at least 76 deaths across the Santa Clarita Valley.
