Canyon Country Family Asks For Support For Son With Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy

The family of Carmen Jeanette Mendoza Navarro has reached out to the Santa Clarita Valley for help paying for transportation for her son, affected by Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Beginning last month, a fundraiser was started to support the family of Jeannette Navarro and her 14-year-old son Jesus, disabled and confined to a wheelchair due to Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Navarro has informed KHTS that ever since Jesus fractured his femur four years ago, it has been difficult to take him to the children’s hospital visits they need twice a month.

According to Parent Project MD, Duchenne muscular dystrophy is a genetic disorder characterized by the progressive loss of muscle.

The disorder is “a multi-systemic condition, affecting many parts of the body, which results in deterioration of the skeletal, heart, and lung muscles,” according to the organization.

The family has been using an older van to transport Jesus due to his wheelchair use, but Navarro has stated the van has broken down and that they are in need of funds to either replace the van or repair it.

The Navarro family’s fundraiser for Jesus has been started, but they have not reached their goal, which would allow them to help take Jesus to his appointments at the hospital as well as to school activities.
