Local Leaders Reflect On Successes Of Santa Clarita During 2021 State Of The City

Local leaders with the City of Santa Clarita held the 2021 State of the City Thursday, reflecting on the City’s successes over the past year.

The 2021 State of the City was hosted at the new Santa Clarita Community Center, spearheaded by members of the City council and joined by local leaders and members of the community alike.

Mayor Bill Miranda reflected on some of the newest additions to the City, which were carried out in spite of the pandemic.

In 2021, Santa Clarita celebrated the opening of the Laemmle Theater, The Cube, the new Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and the new Canyon Country Community Center just to name a few.

Although the new buildings and businesses were opened this year after pandemic restrictions were loosened, Santa Clarita leaders were pleased to see the community push forward and stay together.

“So much seemed impossible with the challenges of last year,” said Councilmember Marsha McLean. “But still, Santa Clarita persisted and showed our usual outstanding commitment that has benefited both residents and businesses throughout 2021.”

Ken Striplin, Santa Clarita’s city manager, also brought attention to the fact that the City is continuously ranked as one of the best and safest places to live, and other members of the council agreed.

“Since being elected to the council last year, I’ve been able to see first hand what makes this City such a beautiful place to live,” said Councilmember Jason Gibbs. “I’m proud of what our all-star city has accomplished.”

Although there are still COVID-19 mandates in place throughout the community and the Council anticipates having to overcome unexpected challenges in the coming year, both Mayor Miranda and City Manager Striplin are proud of where Santa Clarita is currently at int terms of development and economic recovery.

“I’m proud of the goals we have achieved and the progress we made to continue on with challenges of COVID-19,” Miranda said. “What I love about our community is we look around and say, ‘We will get through this together.’”
