Detectives Investigating 2-Month-Old Child’s Death

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide and Special Victims Bureaus are investigating the death of a 2-month-old child in Santa Clarita.

Around 3 a.m. Sunday, first responders received reports of a medical emergency on the 18000 block of Grace Lane in Canyon Country, said Franklin Lopez, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

“The call type was a cardiac arrest,” Lopez said.

The child was transported to Henry Mayo Hospital, before being airlifted to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, according to officials.

On Wednesday, the two-month-old passed away, according to Sheriff’s officials.

“The Homicide Bureau is investigating now that the child passed away,” said Lt. Derrick Alfred with the Homicide Bureau.

Unless the child dies from a recreational emergency or a traffic collision, it is protocol for the Homicide Bureau to investigate any death of a child, Alfred said.

The Special Victims Bureau, which investigates crimes that involve possible child cruelty cases has also launched an investigation and is working alongside the Homicide Bureau, as is routine, Alfred said.

As of Wednesday, both bureaus are awaiting a report from the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office to know if any abuse led to the child’s death, according to Alfred.

However, until detectives get the report from the Coroner’s Office, they are going to continue investigating the case as if a crime did occur, according to officials.

No arrests have been made.
