Santa Clarita Weekend Arrests See Dramatic Spike In Drug, Alcohol-Related Crimes


Santa Clarita weekend arrest logs indicated 16 drug and alcohol-related arrests were made, compared to only nine last week.

Starting Friday Aug. 26 through Sunday Aug. 29 drug and alcohol-related arrests spiked to 16 out of 25 total arrests, according to booking logs.

25 arrests were made in total this weekend, rising slightly from the 22 recorded during the previous weekend, according to law enforcement officials.

Out of the 16 drug and alcohol-related arrests, seven were listed as driving under the influence, (DUI) and 5 were listed as possession of a controlled substance.

Two of the controlled substance possession arrests were narcotics.

In addition to drug related charges, an individual was arrested for being in possession of a stolen firearm, according to arrest logs.

A similar weekend arrest was made regarding the illegal possession of ammunition.

Of those arrested this weekend, 10 were listed as residents of the Santa Clarita Valley.

Eight of the 25 arrests made were felony charges, and half of the felonies were listed as Santa Clarita Valley residents.
