Santa Clarita City Council To Vote On Stabilizing Slope, Appointing Nominee For Commission

The Santa Clarita City Council is set to vote on whether to restore a slope near Shangri-La Drive after a shallow collapse and on appointing a nominee to fill a vacancy on one of Santa Clarita’s commissions.

In a regular Santa Clarita City Council meeting Tuesday, city leaders are scheduled to consider whether to approve a project to restore the slope at Shangri-La Drive and decide if they will approve a nominee to fill an empty position on the Parks, Recreation, and Community Services commission.

The slope on Shangri-La Drive had a surface failure back in October of 2020 because of broken irrigation lines, according to City documents.

The proposed project would fix the slope and hydroseed it, spraying a mixture of seed, mulch and fertilizer to facilitate plant growth and make sure Shangri-La would not erode in the future.

As part of the project approval process, the city council is set to vote on whether to approve over $200,000 in combined funding for the project.

$110,00 would be awarded in the form of a construction contract to restore the hill, while $155,100 would come from the Landscape Maintenance District Fund.

In the meeting, mayor Bill Miranda is also set to submit a nominee to fill out a vacant position on the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission for the rest of the previous position-holder’s unexpired term.

The city council is then slated to vote on whether to approve the nominee for the position.

Residents can watch the city council meeting on the City of Santa Clarita website or on the city’s Facebook page.
