Santa Clarita CHP Officer Dies From COVID-19 Complications  


Officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Newhall Area Office and the Department as a whole are mourning after a 12-year veteran who served the Santa Clarita Valley died Sunday due to complications from COVID-19. 

Officer Jeremiah Hart, 44, whose most recent assignment was with the CHP Newhall Area office since July of 2020, died Sunday due to complications with COVID-19, officials with the CHP Newhall Area Office announced on Social Media.  

“It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the loss of California Highway Patrol (CHP) Officer Jeremiah Hart, ID 19295, who passed away on Sunday, Aug. 8, 2021, from complications due to COVID-19,” the post read.

Officer Hart was a 12-year veteran of the Department and was assigned to the CHP Newhall Area office.  

Officer Hart served in the CHP’s Newhall Area’s Office before going to the Antelope Valley Area and Oakhurst Area offices, before returning to Newhall Area in July 2020, according to officials.

He is survived by his children, Timothy, Courtney and Ezekiel; his parents, Ken and Teresa; and siblings, Danielle Barragan, Krystal DeLeo, Aimee Mayol and Caleb, Katherine and Ellisa Hart.
