Santa Clarita Boys And Girls Club Launch X-Bots Robotics

On Saturday the Boys and Girls Club in Santa Clarita launched an extension of their STEM program called X-Bots Robotics, hosting a demonstration and viewing.

The X-Bots Robotics program encourages students to work together and build robotic specially designed as physical therapy cars for limited-mobility toddlers with cerebral disorders, according to officials.

On Saturday the cars were built and tested for the first time.

“Through this partnership, our aim is to open future opportunities to both the students who will find and explore their passions in STEM fields and families in need,” said Malesia Dunn, executive director of PPG Foundation and Corporate Global Social Responsibility.

Students worked in groups Saturday in the Newhall B&G club gym to build the individual cars, according to officials.

Demonstrations took place outside the center where young children with cerebral disorders were able to test drive the cars.

The Santa Clarita Valley B&G Club is one of the six sites where this pilot expansion took place. Other locations included BGC of Whittier Pico Rivera, BGC of Cathedral City, BGC of Fontana, BGC of Malibu and BGC of Santa Monica

The project promotes community service as well as group communication, teamwork and developing an understanding of engineering.

The X-Bots Robotics encourages future engineers and scientists to experience the joy of experimentation and discovery and by demonstrating the immediate impacts both community service and STEM concepts make in the lives of others,” Dunn said.
