I-210 To Undergo Full 55-Hour Weekend Closure, Affecting Santa Clarita Commuters

The Interstate-210 (I-210) is scheduled to undergo a 55-hour weekend closure of westbound lanes at Roxford Street in Sylmar for paving work beginning next Friday, which may affect travel for Santa Clarita commuters.

The California Department of Transportation (CalTrans) announced the remaining 55-hour full closures of westbound I-210 at Roxford Street in Sylmar this summer, with the next closure taking place over the duration of next weekend.

Full closures of westbound I-210 at Roxford Street are expected to take place over the following weekends:

  • Friday, Jul. 23 at 10 p.m. through 5 a.m. Monday, Jul. 26
  • Friday, Aug. 6 at 10 p.m. through 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 9
  • Friday, Aug. 20 at 10 p.m. through 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 23

The closure is part of a series of a  $135.5 million project replacing all lanes of I-210 with new pavement from Wheatland Avenue to I-5, according to CalTrans. The on and off-ramps, connectors and adjacent shoulders are also expected to be rehabilitated.

Amid the weekend renovations, the following closures are expected to be in place:

  • Full closure of westbound I-210 between Interstate 5 (I-5) and Roxford Street.
  • Westbound Polk Street on-ramp
  • Westbound Roxford Street on-ramp
  • Westbound Yarnell Street on and off-ramp
  • Westbound I-210 to I-5 Interchange
  • Eastbound Paxton Street off-ramp

CalTrans is urging commuters to be “Work Zone Alert” and to “Slow for the Cone Zone.”

Motorists are encouraged to use State Route 118 (SR-118) as an alternate route to reach their destination and to avoid the area of the full closure, according to CalTrans.

Residents and local businesses located near the freeway may experience noise, vibrations and dust associated with construction activities, according to CalTrans.

All closures are weather permitting and are subject to change. Commuters should expect delays and are encouraged to check traffic conditions before leaving to their destination by visiting the CalTrans Quickmap, according to CalTrans.

The project is funded through Senate Bill 1 (SB1), the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, CalTrans representatives said.
