Henry Mayo Reports Highest COVID-19 Hospitalization Rates Since February


Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital reported the highest number of coronavirus-related hospitalizations since early February on Monday.

With 43 patients in the hospital, Henry Mayo now has the highest number of COVID-19 patients under their care since Feb. 10, according to spokesperson Patrick Moody.

“This is the highest number of COVID patients we’ve had at Henry Mayo since Feb. 10,” Moody said. “We continue to strongly encourage all those eligible for vaccination to get vaccinated.”

There were 46 COVID-19 patients in Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital on Wednesday, Feb. 10, according to a previous KHTS story, a number that dropped during the spring months.

As of Sunday, Aug. 29, there were 1,692 people currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Los Angeles County, according to L.A. County Department of Public Health reports.

Five coronavirus-related deaths were reported at Henry Mayo in July, followed by eight deaths in August, five of which occured in one week, according to hospital officials.

Any personal information of the deceased patients, including the ages, has not been made available to the public by Henry Mayo, according to Moody.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health had recorded at least 1,383,186 total cases of coronavirus and 25,071 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

As of Sunday, Aug. 29, 32,520 cumulative cases have been reported in the Santa Clarita Valley since March of 2020, according to Public Health. These cases include:

  • 24,749 in the City of Santa Clarita*
  • 58 in the unincorporated areas of Bouquet Canyon
  • 1,023 in the unincorporated areas of Canyon Country
  • 4,203 in Castaic*
  • 70 in the unincorporated areas of Newhall
  • 4 in Placerita Canyon
  • 16 in San Francisquito/Bouquet Canyon
  • 19 in unincorporated Sand Canyon
  • 157 in the unincorporated areas of Saugus
  • 46 in the unincorporated areas of Saugus/Canyon Country
  • 1,525 in Stevenson Ranch
  • 401 in the unincorporated areas of Val Verde
  • 249 in the unincorporated areas of Valencia

On Saturday, Aug. 28, Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital reported another COVID-19 related death, bringing the hospital’s total number of deceased to 160, according to spokesperson Patrick Moody. This is the fifth death due to coronavirus reported at the Santa Clarita hospital since last Sunday.

In total, the Santa Clarita Valley has experienced at least 301 deaths due to coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.
