Henry Mayo In Santa Clarita Reports Additional Death, 30 Hospitalizations From Coronavirus

Representatives with Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital in Santa Clarita reported an additional death and 30 current hospitalizations from the coronavirus as of Wednesday.

On Wednesday at Henry Mayo, one person died from COVID-19, bringing up the hospital’s total number of coronavirus deaths to 155 as COVID cases continue to rise in Los Angeles County.

34 new deaths and 4,046 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 were announced by the L.A. County Department of Public Health (Public Health) Wednesday, with a continuous spike among homeless individuals, according to Public Health officials.

“People experiencing homelessness are at high risk of severe COVID-19 disease due to underlying health conditions, age, or both,” said Barbara Ferrer, director of Public Health. “As we partner with others to reach people experiencing homelessness that are not yet vaccinated, layering protection at programs serving this population is critical. This includes offering isolation and quarantine facilities for those positive for COVID-19 and for those close contacts to positive cases who are unsheltered.”

L.A. County has had 1,359,672 positive cases of the coronavirus and 24,967 deaths since the onset of the pandemic, with 1,754 people currently hospitalized with COVID-19 as of Wednesday.

In addition, 140 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Santa Clarita on Wednesday.

*As of Tuesday, Aug. 17, public health officials have recorded 2,088 cumulative cases at the Peter J. Pitchess Detention Center, including 1,517 at the North County Correctional Facility. Those cases are distributed between both the City of Santa Clarita and Castaic totals.

To learn how to make a vaccine appointment, what verifications you will need to show at your vaccination appointment, and much more, visit the L.A. County Vaccination website (English) or Vacunate Los Angeles website (Spanish).

Vaccinations are always free and open to eligible residents and workers regardless of immigration status.
