9/11 To Be Remembered Through Guardians Patriot Day Car Show In Santa Clarita

Aiming to pay tribute to those who served and sacrificed on 9/11 exactly 20 years ago, Guardians Support Center, a Santa Clarita non-profit, is scheduled to host a Patriot Day car show and breakfast on Saturday.

With special guests Congressman Mike Garcia, Assemblywoman Suzette Martinez Vallardez and City Councilman Jason Gibbs in attendance, the event is expected to honor those lost in 9/11 and support local veterans through the traumatic anniversary.

“Our saying is ‘iron sharpens iron,’” said Tim Traurig, president and founder of Guardians in a previous KHTS article. “We really believe in peer-to-peer support, that we can sharpen each other.”

The opening ceremony is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. at Higher Vision Church with a possible flyover planned by Traurig to commence the event.

Residents and families are encouraged to take part in the free event and bring their classic cars. Donations are encouraged and can be made at the event and through their website.

Guardians Support Center is known in the community for providing peer-to-peer support for veterans and first responders, offering access to a community with similar experiences and struggles, according to Guardians Support Center.

“We work a lot on our mental health, physical health, spiritual health, we cover it all,” said Traurig. “It’s about learning to thrive in life, not just survive.”

The organization serves as a response to the challenges first responders and military members face during their service, acknowledging the effects of trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder can take on these individuals.

“It’s a tough population to crack,” Traurig said in a previous KHTS article. “Some of the highest rates of divorce, domestic violence, abuse and alcoholism fall under this population, so there is a big need for support.”

Guardians Support Center meetings for veterans are typically held on Mondays at the forum room at Higher Vision Church.

Monthly socials and family nights are also hosted by the organization to create connections, as well as service projects members can take part in. Outreach extends beyond the city of Santa Clarita with Guardians servicing veterans and first responders around the L.A. area, according to Guardians Support Center.
