The state of California has new guidelines for reopening that went into effect Tuesday, but workers are still required to wear masks indoors pending guideline updates from the California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal/OSHA).
The guidelines from the state of California would only require workers who are unvaccinated to wear masks, but Cal/OSHA is not set to vote on implementing the same guidelines until Thursday.
Good morning California.
It’s reopening day.
We’ve administered over 40 million vaccines.
Now…
No more social distancing.
No more capacity limits.
No more colors or county tiers.
And if you’re vaccinated—no more masks.
It’s a good day.

If Cal/OSHA were to implement guidelines allowing vaccinated workers to remain unmasked, Governor Gavin Newsom has stated he would sign an executive order putting the guidelines into effect Thursday.
If approved, the guidelines would also require employers to provide face coverings to employees who request them.
Newsom has said workplaces could use an honor system to verify vaccination status of employees, with staff who claim to be vaccinated permitted to work without masks.
However, the California Department of Industrial Relations, which encompasses Cal/OSHA, has said employees must provide proof of vaccination before being allowed to remove their masks.
Reopening guidelines have ended a majority of coronavirus restrictions, including physical distancing, capacity limits and county tiers, according to officials with California’s government.
Pandemic travel guidelines in California have been lifted, but CDC travel requirements are still in effect, representatives said.
Guidance for K-12 schools and childcare programs are still in place, officials said.
Those attending mega-events, or indoor events with 5,000 or more people and outdoor events with over 10,000 people, are required to provide proof of vaccination or a negative coronavirus status to attend an indoor event. It is recommended but not required that the same be done for outdoor events, representatives said.
Masking is still required in hospitals, long-term care facilities, homeless shelters, on public transit and indoors in K-12 schools, childcare and other facilities with many children, according to the state of California.
