Wanted Person Leads CHP Officers On 14 Freeway Pursuit In Santa Clarita

A wanted parolee was arrested Saturday morning after leading California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers on a brief 14 Freeway pursuit in Santa Clarita.

Around 2:45 a.m. Saturday, CHP officers received a report of a reckless driver on the southbound 14 Freeway and were dispatched to investigate the driver in question, said Officer Josh Greengard, spokesperson for the CHP Newhall Area Office.

Officers located the vehicle on the southbound 14 Freeway near Soledad Canyon Road but when they attempted to pull the vehicle over, the suspect began to evade them.

“We received a call of a Chrysler driving recklessly,” Greengard said. “We located the vehicle and got into position and attempted to pull the vehicle over. The vehicle failed to stop, and led us on a pursuit.”.

The pursuit exited the 14 Freeway onto Sand Canyon Road and re-entered the Freeway heading north, according to Greengard.

Officers laid out a spike strip near Santiago Road to hinder the vehicle’s ability to continue and the driver, a parolee at large, was taken into custody, Greengard said.

The driver, 24-year-old Brian Huerta, from Lancaster, was charged with felony evading, with no bail given, Greengard added.
