Santa Clarita Man Arrested On Sexual Battery After Inappropriately Touching Woman On Hiking Trail

A man was arrested Thursday afternoon for sexual battery of a Valencia woman after he allegedly touched her inappropriately on a hiking trail in Santa Clarita.

Around 4:45 p.m. Thursday, deputies responded to reports of a sexual battery call at Towsley Canyon Park on the Old Road in Newhall, said Sgt. Brian Hudson, with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Special Victims Bureau.

“The victim was approached by the suspect who made sexually explicit comments to her,” Hudson said.

The suspect then reportedly followed the woman on the trail and sexually assaulted her, touching her inappropriately, according to Hudson.

“The victim was able to notify the Sheriff’s Station deputies,” Hudson said. “They began hiking the trail in Towsley Canyon for approximately two miles looking for the suspect.”

Deputies were unable to locate the suspect on the trail, according to officials.

However, shortly after the search, the victim saw the suspect and let deputies know of his whereabouts, Hudson said.

Marvin Reyes Linares, 26, from Canyon Country, was arrested on felony sexual battery involving restraint, Hudson added.

The suspect was arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s jail with bail set at $25,000, according to Hudson.
