Rapper ‘Blueface’ Opens ‘Blue’s Fish & Soul’, Previously SCV Fish Market

Up-and-coming rapper “Blueface” officially opened “Blue’s Fish & Soul,” a soul food restaurant in Santa Clarita on Tuesday.

Johnathan Porter, 24, better known as his rap pseudonym, Blueface, purchased the SCV Fish Market in Santa Clarita and transformed the community staple into Blue’s Fish & Soul, a soul food restaurant incorporating his mother’s recipes he enjoyed as a child.

On Tuesday, BlueFace posted a tour of the establishment to his Instagram page where he gave viewers a glimpse at the menu, featuring a classic soul food cuisine.

“I am happy to let y’all know that I am the new proud owner of SCV Fish Market in the Santa Clarita Valley,” BlueFace said in the clip. “It’s the only place where you can come and get some soul food in this whole entire valley.”

In the viral video, Blueface walked through his new venue, before workers handed him a plate of food consisting of fried fish, fried shrimp, fried hushpuppies and macaroni as well as his signature Blueface lemonade.

Serving “fried or grilled authentic southern food,” Blueface’s mother is set to be serving her own southern recipes to the residents of Santa Clarita on Monday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The menu consists of various seafood, chicken and meatloaf platters as well as Po Boy sandwiches with a variety of side choices including collard greens, garden salad, baked beans, yams, red beans and rice, hush puppies and more.

In recent Instagram stories, Blueface has been seen outside his recording studio and instead frying up fish and preparing macaroni and cheese with his family in the restaurant.

Located on 26234 Bouquet Canyon Road, Blue’s Fish & Soul has officially opened its doors to the public, with positive reviews from the community, according to recent Yelp reviews under both SCV Fish Market’s page and Blue’s Fish and Soul’s page.

Before embarking on his soul food journey, Blueface signed with the label “Cash Money West” and was dubbed as “L.A.’s most controversial rapper” by Pitchfork magazine in October 2018.

Blueface is most well-known for his song “Thotiana,” which peaked at number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2019 and accumulated over 179 million views on Youtube across multiple music videos with remixes by other rappers such as YG, Cardi B, and Young M.A.

Blueface, who played football at Golden Valley High School, is also well-known in Santa Clarita after allegedly being involved in a vehicle-to-vehicle gunfight in Newhall before crashing into a center divider on the 14 Freeway in 2018.
