NAACP Santa Clarita Introduces Recently Elected Branch Officials

The newly created Santa Clarita branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) has announced the elected officials selected to lead the chapter.

Officials with Santa Clarita’s NAACP branch announced the six newly elected officers and executive committee members on Tuesday.

“I look forward to building strong relationships with our mayor, city council, school boards and law enforcement,” said Santa Clarita branch president Valerie Bradford. “We are honored to be selected for this amazing opportunity to represent this new branch.”

Bradford was elected president, while Karen Dorris and Rlynn Smith Thomas were named first and second vice president respectively, officials said.

Kelly Franti was elected to the role of secretary, Allysa Williams became assistant secretary and Cheryl Corriveau was sworn in as treasurer, representatives said.

Elections were held on May 29. Officials were sworn in on June 3.

The branch hopes to reduce inequality and promote change in areas like criminal justice, healthcare, education, climate and the economy, representatives said.

“We plan to do all we can to inspire change in our community and help our branch be the catalyst that drives a better, more inclusive version of SCV,” Bradford said.
