Masks Not Required For Most Indoor Activities For Fully Vaccinated Santa Clarita Residents

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced Thursday that it is updating COVID-19 guidance to say that fully vaccinated people, including those in Santa Clarita, are not required to wear masks or social distance except for in certain situations.

CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky announced the new guidance during a White House COVID-19 briefing Thursday.

“Today, CDC is updating our guidance for fully vaccinated people,” Walensky said. “Anyone who is fully vaccinated can participate in indoor and outdoor activities, large or small, without wearing a mask and fully vaccinated. If you are fully vaccinated, you can start doing the things you have stopped doing because of the pandemic. We have all longed for this moment, when we can get back to some sense of normalcy.”

The CDC still urges fully vaccinated people to wear well-fitted masks when it is required by federal, state or local laws, as well as on private property by businesses, officials said.

As of Thursday morning, a state mask mandate was still in place in California.

Masks are still being required on planes, trains and other types of public transportation, according to officials.

Walensky also warned that people who are immunocompromised should speak with their doctors before they stop wearing masks.

Walensky noted that “the past year has shown us that this virus can be unpredictable, so if things get worse, there is always a chance we may need to make a change to these recommendations.”
