Man Physically Assaulted, Pointed Firearm At Family Member In Santa Clarita

A Santa Clarita man was arrested Saturday after he allegedly physically assaulted a family member during an argument before pointing a firearm at the injured person.

Around 10:35 p.m. Saturday, deputies responded to the 27900 block of Ashboro Drive in Canyon Country regarding an assault with a deadly weapon call for service, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“Upon arrival, deputies learned during a verbal altercation, the suspect physically assaulted a family member in front of the residence,” Arriaga said.

The suspect then pointed a firearm in the direction of the victim and witnesses while making verbal threats, according to Arriaga.

John Mahaffey, 66, from Canyon Country was arrested for assault likely to produce great bodily injury, a felony, Arriaga added.

Mahaffey was arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail with bail set at $30,000, according to Arrest records.

The victim was evaluated on scene by medical personnel.
