Four Arrested For Assault After Homeowner Attacked By Drunk Poolgoers

Four Santa Clarita residents were arrested on felony assault charges Sunday after allegedly getting into a fight when three of them assaulted a homeowner after being locked in a community pool complex.

Around 9:30 p.m. Sunday, deputies received reports of a possible assault with a deadly weapon call on Cunningham Drive in Saugus, said Sgt. Brian Shreves with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“Three of them were at a community pool drinking,” Shreves said.

When the three were leaving the pool, two of the individuals walked one of their “drunk friends” to the vehicle, according to Shreves.

The gate remained partially opened, allowing two people to go back into the pool area to retrieve the rest of their items, according to officials.

However, when the two individuals were inside the pool area, the gate shut and locked.

At which point, they realized they left the key to the gate in the car with their “drunk friend,” Shreves said.

The two parties reportedly began yelling for one of the surrounding homeowners to come let them out, according to Shreves.

A nearby resident apparently came outside to help the two’s wants and wishes.

“The suspects didn’t think he was helping fast enough,” and began to harass the individual, Shreves said.

After the two started to harass the person who was trying to help, he decided to not assist them and walked away.

“At that point, the two suspects climbed over the fence,” Shreves said. “The two of them charged him and he ran into the house and locked his door.”

The suspects allegedly began pounding on the door of the house of the man who was originally trying to help them get out of the pool area, according to Shreves.

The homeowner, Nader Adawiya, came back to the door with a bat in hand, according to Shreves.

At that point, the two suspects, now joined up with the third friend who was in the car, all got into a physical fight with Adawiya, Shreves said.

“It is unclear if anyone was hit by the bat or if it was all fistfight,” Shreves said.

All four individuals, Andrea Gregory, 23, from Valencia, Jerry Beran, 35, from Newhall, Giovanni Sorto, 22, from Saugus and Adawiya, 40, from Saugus were all arrested on assault with a deadly weapon, not a firearm charges, Shreves added.

This case remains under active investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station detectives.

All four were transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail where they were booked.
