Mike Garcia has announced that Hart High junior Olivia Moon’s painting, “Muted: Broken System,” was selected by a panel of five independent judges as the winner of the 2021 Congressional Art Competition for California’s 25th District. Olivia’s work is set to be sent to Washington, D.C. where it is scheduled to hang in the halls of Congress.
“I want to congratulate Olivia on this great achievement,” said Garcia in a statement Tuesday. “Olivia’s impressive oil painting will now be seen by Members of Congress and visitors from across the country and world when they come to visit the U.S. Capitol. Olivia should be very proud of this accomplishment.”
Garcia also announced the second and third place winners of the 2021 Congressional Art Competition.
In second place was “Look at Yourself” by Yeajin Yoo, a junior at Valencia High School, and in third place was “Eyes of Innocent” by Meggie Mosser, a senior at Trinity Classical Academy.
“The Congressional Art Competition is a great opportunity for young Californians interested in art and I am grateful to all of the students who participated this year,” Garcia said. “I want to thank all the students, teachers, and families who made this year’s competition possible. I also want to thank the five independent judges from California’s 25th District who provided their expertise and reviewed all of the artwork submitted to this year’s competition.”
