Deputies arrested a wanted assault suspect Tuesday during a search warrant with the assistance of the Los Angeles Police Department, (LAPD) after he allegedly brandished a firearm during an argument Monday evening in Canyon Country.
Around 10:20 p.m. Monday, deputies received reports of an assault with a deadly weapon on the 22900 block of Soledad Canyon Road in Canyon Country, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
“The suspect, who also had multiple outstanding warrants, displayed a firearm during a verbal argument at a local business in Canyon Country,” Arriaga said.
Through an investigation deputies learned who the suspect was and had information on where he may have been located, according to Sheriff’s officials.
Deputies with the Crime Impact Team led a special surveillance operation in Sun Valley Tuesday with the help of the LAPD in an attempt to locate the suspect.
“With the help of officers and air support division from the Los Angeles Police Department, their officers were able to set up containment, allowing our deputies to make an arrest,” Arriaga said. “The success of this arrest is just one of the many displays of ‘teamwork’ within different law enforcement agencies. Thank you to the Los Angeles Police Department for helping make our community safer.”
Omar Carpio, 31, from Sylmar was arrested on felony assault with a deadly weapon and for his warrants, Arriaga added.
Carpio was arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail with bail set at $185,000, according to arrest records.
