Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station Hosts Second Free Catalytic Converter Etching Event

Back by popular demand after the success of the first event on March 25, the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station in partnership with Reeves Complete Auto Center and Canyon Muffler is hosting another free catalytic converter etching event.

On Wednesday, April 21, 2021, and Thursday, April 22, 2021, in response to a continued uptick in catalytic converter thefts, the event offers free etchings of a car’s license plate number onto the catalytic converter.

This is believed to help reduce the likelihood that the catalytic converter will be stolen and in the event, it is stolen the etching is expected to aid deputies in locating the original owner when and if it is found.

The positivity surrounding the previous event has encouraged more etching events to take place, including the new addition of Canyon Country-based auto center Canyon Muffler.

“This is a great opportunity for the community to partner with the local officials to work towards a safer community,” read an official statement from the station.

To protect your vehicle, Sheriff’s officials recommend avoiding parking in unlit or secluded areas, welding the catalytic converter bolts shut, and continuing to report any suspicious activity.

This event is planned to be open to Santa Clarita residents by appointment only with limited availability on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Anyone interested in signing up for this free service and would like to book an appointment or simply learn more, contact Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Deputy Borbon of Community Relations at ka1borbo@lasd.org.

Note that the auto centers are not expected to be taking appointments, and all appointments must be booked through Deputy Borbon.
