Providence Los Angeles Hospitals Earn Integrated Network Cancer Program Accreditation

Providence Los Angeles hospitals have collectively earned a three-year accreditation from the American College of Surgeons’ Commission with their cancer care being identified as an integrated network program.

With a variety of specialists, research and clinical trials, cutting-edge diagnostics and treatments, robust integrative medicine programs and highly specialized navigation through the medical maze, Providence Los Angeles cancer centers have received accreditation for their cancer care unit from the American College of Surgeons’ Commission.

When patients receive a terrifying diagnosis of cancer, Providence hospitals in Los Angeles County provide access to high-quality programs and services with Providence trademarked compassion. Their nationally recognized care is cultivated by the unified expertise across each of their five medical centers, according to Providence.

“This accreditation certifies that when cancer patients come to Providence, they have access to comprehensive high-quality care, close to home,” said Brad Bott, network administrator for Providence Southern California’s Clinical Institutes. “Patients can be reassured of a patient-centric program across the entire county with access to the full menu of cancer services.”

To earn accreditation, Providence’s cancer center met all 34 quality standards, passed evaluations every three years through a survey process and maintained a standard of excellence in the delivery of comprehensive patient-centered care.

Providence operates through an integrated network, meaning that cancer care staff are able to draw upon the research of their partners. For example, Providence has the ability to draw upon the research at the Providence Saint John’s Cancer Center in Santa Monica, genetic work based at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center’s Disney Family Cancer Center in Burbank or various disease-specific centers such as that at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center, which recently was accredited by National Pancreas Foundation as a Pancreatic Cancer Center of Excellence. The network also includes Providence Little Company of Mary Torrance and Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center.

The Providence Clinical Institutes model ensures that experts work together to share life-altering information as well as best practices to deliver a highly efficient and seamless cancer care experience for all patients, according to Providence.

When patients receive care at an accredited hospital such as Providence, they receive access to genetic counseling, new treatments and patient-centered services like psycho-social support and a survivorship care plan to accurately document patient care, while seeking to improve the life quality of cancer survivors.

The commission’s accreditation program provides the framework for Providence Southern California’s Los Angeles service area to continuously improve the quality of patient care through various cancer-related programs that focus on the full spectrum of cancer care including prevention, early diagnosis, cancer staging, optimal treatment, rehabilitation, life-long follow-up for recurrent disease and end-of-life care, according to Providence.

Providence, alongside all Commission on Cancer accredited facilities, maintains a cancer registry that contributes data to the National Cancer DataBase, a joint program of the Commission on Cancer and American Cancer Society.

As the largest clinical disease registry in the world, data on all types of cancer are tracked through this nationwide oncology outcome database to explore trends in cancer care which is used to create benchmark reports on national, regional and state scales. Providence utilizes these records to track the best practices to provide cancer patients with the best quality of care.
