Number Of Reported Weekend Arrests Spikes Over Easter Weekend

The number of arrests reported Easter weekend, from Friday April 2 to Sunday April 4, in the Santa Clarita Valley rose to 26 over the last weekend, ending a trend of steadily descending weekend crime numbers.

This total is roughly 61% more arrests than those of the previous weekend of March 26 to 28, indicating a spike in arrests compared to the descending rate of the previous two weeks that totaled 16 and 15 arrests respectively.

Out of the 26 reported arrests over the weekend, more than two-thirds were related to drugs or alcohol, with 10 reported incidents of driving under the influence (DUI), five for possession of a controlled substance, two for being under the influence of a controlled substance, and one for public intoxication.

This number of drug-and-alcohol-related arrests increased by 11 more than the previous weekend, in which only five such arrests appeared in booking logs.

The reported number of DUI arrests increased by eight, and the number of overall drug-and-alcohol-related arrests is up by 11 compared with last weekend.

The other eight arrests unrelated to drugs and alcohol included one for attempted burglary, four for violence against spouses or former spouses, and three for tampering with or taking vehicles without owner consent.

Out of the total number of reported arrests made, the number of felony charges was only 30% of the total arrests.

Representing an increase in total reported crimes, this new spike in arrests featured more than half of individuals who were from addresses outside of Santa Clarita.

15 arrests reported in police logs over the weekend featured home addresses in cities outside of Santa Clarita, with one reportedly from outside of California.

One of the 10 individuals arrested for driving under the influence was from an address located in the state of Texas.
