L.A. Public Health Reports Over 15 New COVID-19 Cases In Santa Clarita Sunday


More than 15 positive COVID-19 cases in Santa Clarita and over 400 new cases across L.A. County were reported by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LADPH) Sunday.

More than 6,642,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to people across Los Angeles County. Of these, over 4,254,000 were first doses and over 2,387,000 were second doses.

An additional 408 new COVID-19 cases and 5 deaths were reported by the LADPH across L.A. County on Sunday.

This brings the county’s cumulative total to 1,231,571 positive cases of COVID-19 and 23,780 deaths since the onset of the pandemic, according to the LADPH officials.

Testing results are available for over 6,430,000 people, with a cumulative 18 percent of people testing positive, according to officials.

As of Saturday, there were 444 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in L.A. County.

Residents are encouraged to continue to prevent the spread of COVID-19, to not gather in crowds, stay home when sick, wear a face covering and maintain physical distance from others when outside of the home, according to officials.

On Sunday, 16 new COVID-19 cases were reported in the Santa Clarita Valley, with 26,797 cumulative cases having been reported in the valley over the past year, according to the LADPH. These cases include:

  • 20,256 in the City of Santa Clarita* (+9)
  • 47 in the unincorporated areas of Bouquet Canyon
  • 839 in the unincorporated areas of Canyon Country (+2)
  • 3,724 in Castaic* (+2)
  • 68 in the unincorporated areas of Newhall
  • 1 in Placerita Canyon
  • 15 in San Francisquito/Bouquet Canyon
  • 17 in unincorporated Sand Canyon
  • 128 in the unincorporated areas of Saugus
  • 40 in the unincorporated areas of Saugus/Canyon Country (+1)
  • 1,135 in Stevenson Ranch (+1)
  • 336 in the unincorporated areas of Val Verde
  • 191 in the unincorporated areas of Valencia (+1)

*As of Monday, April 23, public health officials have recorded 1,987 cumulative cases have been reported at the Peter J. Pitchess Detention Center, including 1,448 at the North County Correctional Facility. Those cases are distributed between both the City of Santa Clarita and Castaic totals. In nearby Acton, there have been 470 cumulative cases, as well as 278 cases in Agua Dulce.

A total of 145 coronavirus deaths have been reported at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital, with at least 285 COVID-19 deaths reported across the Santa Clarita Valley since March 2020.
