L.A. County To Host Free Household Hazardous Waste Drive-Thru Collection Event In Santa Clarita

Providing an easy way to safely dispose of items that are too toxic to trash, Los Angeles County is offering a free Santa Clarita drive-thru recycling collection event at College of the Canyons on Saturday.

The collection event is scheduled to provide a free and convenient recycling opportunity for Santa Clarita residents on Saturday, April 17 at COC.

The drive-thru event is projected to take place between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 17  in COC’s South Parking Lot on 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road.

To participate, the event asks that all items must be carefully secured in a trunk or pick-up bed with no other items. Hazardous waste must be in a sturdy box, preferably in original containers. Be prepared to leave the containers at the event.

Explosives, ammunition, radioactive materials, controlled substances, trash, tires or large appliances (like refrigerators, stoves and washing machines) will not be accepted, according to officials.

Sharps disposal will require exiting the vehicle at a designated location to deposit any biomedical waste materials in a bin.

The event is open to all Los Angeles County residents, but no business waste is accepted.

As a maximum, the event will accept 15 gallons or 125 pounds of hazardous waste per trip.
