Family members are asking for the public’s help in locating their teenage daughter who “voluntarily ran away” Friday evening in Stevenson Ranch.
Adelina Grifsha, 16, from Santa Clarita was last seen at her grandparents house in Stevenson Ranch Friday evening, according to Rachelle Moreno, Grifsha’s mother.
“For the last three weeks Grifsha was staying at her grandparent’s house,” Moreno said.
Prior to her staying with her grandparents, Grifsha’s parents had confiscated her phone because she was talking with strangers on the internet, according to Moreno.
On Friday evening, once everyone at the house went to bed Grifsha reportedly left the location and the grandparents were not aware of it until Saturday morning, Moreno said.
“She left a note stating she had called the suicide prevention line and they came and picked her up,” Moreno said.
However, the family members were able to determine that no such phone calls were made, according to Moreno.
After her family saw the note and investigated, deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station came to the home and took a missing persons report.
In the past Grifsha has made suicidal statements, had welfare checks from deputies and has spoken with Child and Family Services.
Although Grifsha’s exact whereabouts are uncertain and has made suicidal statements in the past, she has been in contact with her aunt daily.
“She has been in contact with my sister via Snapchat,” Moreno said. “We know she is alive, she sends some kind of message to my sister every day.”
Sgt. Brian Shrieves, the detective investigating the case, believes that Grifsha is more than likely with a boyfriend who also may be a minor and “voluntarily ran away” with him.
Grifsha is a Type 1 diabetic and did bring medicine with her, according to her mom.
In the past, while living with her mom, Moreno told KHTS that from time-to-time, Grifsha would have a backpack ready to go, and was just waiting for the right time to leave.
The family has had a few leads as to where Grifsha may be however they have all come up empty.
Anyone with information regarding Grifsha’s whereabouts are encouraged to contact the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station at 661-255-1121.
