College of the Canyons is set to host guest speakers and Tony Award-winning songwriters Lynn Ahren and Stephen Flaherty at their School of Visual and Performing Arts’ Virtual Industry Insight series next week.
“It is such a privilege to have Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty join our College community as the final guests in our Industry Insight Series this Spring” said Jennifer Smolos, Dean of the School of Visual & Performing Arts. “Their contributions to the American stage and screen are unparalleled.”
Known for their work on musicals “Anastasia,” “Ragtime,” and “Seussical,” both Ahrens and Flaherty are winner’s of Broadway’s “triple crown,” having won a Tony Award, Drama Desk Award, and Outer Critics Circle Award.
They also received two Grammy nominations, two Academy Award nominations and two Golden Globe nominations.
Their most recent collaboration is the original musical “Marie,” with book and lyrics by Ahrens and music by Flaherty, which had its world premiere at the Kennedy Center in 2014 and premiered at Seattle’s Fifth Avenue Theater in spring of 2019.
The pair are expected to appear as part of COC’s visual and performing arts series on April 27 at 5:00 p.m. to share insight and experiences from their careers.
All students, faculty, staff, Patrons of the Arts members, and members of the Santa Clarita Valley community are invited, with an opportunity to ask questions during the event.
