Santa Clarita 2025: City Reveals Five Year Plan To Launch Over 80 Community Projects

The City of Santa Clarita presented Santa Clarita 2025, the next five-year strategic plan, at the council meeting last Tuesday, revealing over 80 planned projects to improve the community.

Santa Clarita City’s Leadership and Management Teams released an official plan for the next five years with projects chosen through community input – received from businesses and individuals – that simultaneously align with the City Council’s priorities.

“Santa Clarita 2025 is the City’s strategic plan that will guide our organization over the next five years, allowing us to prioritize resources, achieve milestones, and maintain our unwavering commitment to offering the highest quality services and facilities for current and future residents, as well as to visitors of Santa Clarita,” said City Manager Kenneth Striplin in the Santa Clarita 2025 Strategic Plan. “This plan combines the City’s current projects and services with initiatives and future efforts to sustain aging and existing infrastructure.”

Intending to measure the priorities of the community, officials collected data through various sources inclusive of the biannual public opinion poll, the Community Development Block Grant community needs assessment survey, outreach through the Parks and Recreation Workplan, the Arts Master Plan and the City’s General Plan, among others.

“The process to develop Santa Clarita 2025 was an inclusive one, utilizing feedback from City staff, local residents through the biannual Public Opinion Poll, and the guidance and direction of the Santa Clarita City Council,” Striplin said. “We began by identifying themes that are most relevant to maintaining and enhancing the quality of life in Santa Clarita.”

The agenda categorizes the plans under seven essential work areas:

  • Building and Creating Community
  • Community Engagement
  • Sustaining Public Infrastructure
  • Enhancing Economic Vitality
  • Community Beautification and Sustainability
  • Organizational Excellence
  • Public Safety

Projected programs span from the completion of the Central Park Buildout Project to generating tourism with rebranding of ‘The Cube’ ice rink with 86 more projects expected to launch before 2025.

Additional key projects include:

  • Construction of subsequent phases of the Sand Canyon Trail where right-of-way access is attainable.
  • Installing an automated traffic system to notify City staff of unforeseen traffic incidents and improve response time to mitigate traffic congestion along major corridors.
  • Completing Copper Hill Bridge widening construction and trail improvements in conjunction with the Tesoro Highland Project.
  • Collaborating with the Economic Development Corporation and Chamber of Commerce to attract businesses and jobs to Santa Clarita.
  • Continuing the administration of the COVID-19 response funding and advocate for additional resources through the duration of the economic recovery.
  • Installing trash capture devices to trap and prevent trash from entering storm drains and making its way into the Santa Clara River.
  • Ensuring that 50% of all new bus purchases are zero-emission.
  • Continuing efforts in preventing large-scale mining in Soledad Canyon.
  • Continuing facilitation of the Traffic Safety Team to maintain a record-low collision rate.

The Santa Clarita 2025 encompasses an eight-page list of not only projects that are scheduled, but also projects that are already in the works, including the development of Bridge to Home’s permanent housing shelter project and the construction of the new SCV Sheriff’s Station

“When you look at the dozens of action items within the plan, you will see projects, programs, events and amenities which will benefit every resident within Santa Clarita,” said Mayor Bill Miranda. “It is important, as a City, to set a vision, explore creative solutions, anticipate the needs of the community and be able to effectively prioritize goals. By gathering input from the community and working together to establish priorities, we have crafted a plan which will successfully guide Santa Clarita into the future.”
