Two Arrested After Being Found With Tear Gas, ‘Altered BB Gun’ In Newhall

Two people from Colorado were arrested in Newhall late Sunday night after deputies reportedly found them with narcotics, a can of tear gas, and an “altered BB gun” modified to look like a legitimate firearm.

At around 11 p.m. Sunday, deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station were patrolling in Newhall when they spotted a vehicle without license plates driving along Newhall Avenue.

When deputies made contact with the man and woman inside the vehicle, they reportedly saw drug paraphernalia “exposed in plain view,” according to Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the station.

“A search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of an altered BB gun, made to appear as an authentic firearm, narcotics, additional drug paraphernalia and a can of tear gas,” Arriaga wrote in an official post Monday.

After further investigation, deputies discovered that the man was a convicted felon, Arriaga added.

Ultimately, 38-year-old Colton Nelson was arrested on multiple charges, including being a convicted felon in possession of tear gas, and 36-year-old Kendra Baker was arrested on narcotics charges.

The pair were transported to and booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail, where both of their bail amounts were set at $0.
