‘Loud Explosion’ Leads To Search For Downed Aircraft Near Newhall

First responders are searching for a possible aircraft down between the areas of Newhall and Bear Divide after a loud explosion was heard.

Around 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, first responders received reports of a loud explosion consistent with a plane crash in the Newhall area, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“We’ve been searching since the time of the reported explosion,” Arriaga said.

Then, at around 2:45 a.m. Wednesday, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported that a signal from an airplane was being sent out between the areas of Newhall and Bear Divide consistent with a downed aircraft, Arriaga added.

Deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, alongside air support from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, have been searching the area for any signs of a downed plane, according to officials.

No aircraft has been located as of 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.
