Both directions of the I-5 Freeway have been closed for an unknown duration Monday night due to snow in the Grapevine north of Castaic.
As of 8:00 p.m. Monday, all lanes of the I-5 Freeway have been closed through the Grapevine due to snow, according to Officer Josh Greengard, spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol Newhall Area Office.
“(We) closed the 5 Freeway due to impassable snow on the summit, full closure happens shortly after 8 p.m. tonight,” said Greengard.
Southbound traffic is being diverted off at Grapevine Road in Kern County, and northbound traffic is being diverted off at Parker Road in Castaic, according to California Department of Transportation (CALTRANS) officials.

Alternate routes are available as of Monday night.
Northbound travelers
Take the northbound US-101 to the eastbound State Route 166, then onto the northbound I-5
Southbound travelers
Take the westbound State Route 166 to the southbound US-101
