Roughly 20% More Weekend Arrests Reported In Santa Clarita Valley

Roughly 20% more arrests were reportedly made in the Santa Clarita Valley over the weekend compared to the previous weekend, the majority of which were related to drugs or alcohol.

Between Friday, Feb. 26 and Sunday, Feb. 28, arrest records indicate that a total of 36 arrests were reported by officials from both the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and the California Highway Patrol Newhall Office.

This is up 20% when compared to the previous weekend of Feb. 19-21, when 30 arrests were reported.

Out of the 36 reported arrests over the weekend, 24, or two-thirds, were related to drugs and alcohol, with 16 reported incidents of driving under the influence (DUI), five for possession of a controlled substance, two for being under the influence of a controlled substance, and one for the transportation of narcotics.

The number of reported DUI arrests doubled compared to the previous weekend, and the overall number of drug- and alcohol-related arrests increased by just over 71% between the two weekends.

Just under 53% of reported individuals arrested over the weekend gave home addresses outside of the Santa Clarita Valley, an increase of five total people compared to the previous weekend.

Despite the higher number of reported arrests, the number of felony charges reported decreased by nearly 54% from the previous weekend.
