Hair loss is one of the most widespread medical issues in the world. Affecting mostly men, hair loss has proven to be a challenge for modern medicine. Although some methods and procedures will help treat hair loss, there is yet to be a 100% effective solution to this problem. That being said, new research is revealing innovative means of combating hair loss problems.
Identifying Causes of Hair Loss
Hair loss is most often triggered by genetic predispositions. Scientists are trying to figure out exactly what is causing hair loss and how different genetic conditions are affecting hair density. One of the more innovative means of combating genetic hair loss is through the use of low-level lasers.
These devices aren’t capable of restoring hair completely, but there is enough data to show that the use of low-level lasers can improve hair density.
Prevention is the Best Solution
Parallel to the research being done on hair restoration methods, there is an entire industry working on devising new ways of preventing hair loss. Hair loss specialists from groclinics.com.au argue that hair loss can be slowed down significantly through the use of various medications. Their research has shown that using various carefully selected supplements can reduce the rate of hair loss even in more severe cases.
Supplementation is nothing new. However, finding the right combination of supplements and other hair health products is promising to be the driving factor behind future hair loss treatments.
Potential Stem Cell Treatments

One of the most promising innovations regarding hair health and restoration comes from stem cell research. Namely, scientists have figured out a way of utilizing stem cells to stimulate hair growth. The idea is to use platelet-rich plasma, which is a protein concentrate derived from blood.
By taking blood, centrifuging it to remove red blood cells, and using the remaining white blood cells to create PRP, scientists are trying to stimulate hair growth without resorting to invasive procedures. The current state of research in PRP shows that this type of treatment is yielding positive results in some patients.
Being a fairly new procedure, further research is necessary to determine whether PRP can be used as a reliable method of hair loss treatment.
Hair Cloning and Restoration
Considered to be the holy grail of hair loss prevention and restoration, hair follicle cloning seems to be one step closer to becoming a reality. The latest research is gradually answering some of the many questions that are in the way of understanding how to properly clone hair follicles.
What makes this method so appealing is the fact that you’re not transplanting hair from one part of the scalp to another. Instead, you are using the patient’s own hair follicles to make in vitro clones that would later be implanted where necessary.
Hair cloning is another area where stem cell research comes into play. There are numerous studies being done to determine whether stem cells can be used to clone hair or at least help with the process.
Apart from hair cloning, scientists are working on means of preserving healthy hair follicles from patients who are experiencing expedited hair loss. Some researchers have found that cryogenics offers a decent solution to this issue, allowing those affected by hair loss to preserve some of their healthy hair in hopes that future medical treatments would help them long after their hair is gone.
Less Invasive Transplants
Although hair cloning is something to strive for, most of the innovation in hair loss prevention and treatment has been done in hair transplant technologies. Namely, modern hair transplant methods are reducing the overall invasiveness of these procedures.
The most advanced hair transplant methods allow for follicle extraction without the need to cut the scalp or otherwise damage the scalp tissue. As a result, patients are able to spend less time in recovery while the whole process is made far less uncomfortable.
The Future of Hair Loss Treatment
Even though progress is slow, science is slowly inching towards finding a solution to hair loss. We are seeing an increase in research being done to combat this age-old problem. Breakthroughs in medical science such as innovations in stem cell research are promising to have a positive impact on hair restoration treatments of the future.
So far there is plenty to be optimistic about, however, it will be years before we see any semblance of a permanent solution. Until then, hail loss prevention and advanced hair loss transplants are making sure that severe cases of hair loss are given hope.
