The Santa Clarita City Council voted to award a contract to the Los Angeles Kings to operate the Valencia Ice Station after the City of Santa Clarita acquired the center several months prior.
On Tuesday, members of the Santa Clarita City Council voted unanimously to award a five-year contract to American Sports Entertainment Company and the Los Angeles Kings (ASEC/Kings) for operations of the “City of Santa Clarita Ice and Entertainment Center,” more commonly known as the Valencia Ice Station.
“I am popping buttons with pride that our community would do this,” said Mayor Bill Miranda. “What started out as a groundswell movement, a grassroots movement is now coming to fruition. I’d like to congratulate the city manager and city staff… I think this is going to be just fantastic, what little i’ve seen is fantastic.”
ASEC/Kings is now expected to provide programming opportunities for participants of all ages and abilities, such as:
- Public Skating
- Youth and Adult Hockey Leagues
- Seasonal Camps
- Hockey and Figure Skating Clinics
- Contract Ice Rentals
- Birthday Parties and Special Events

Additionally, ASEC/Kings are set to be responsible for providing all services at the Valencia Ice Station, including “at a minimum:”
- Manage equipment rentals
- Supervise and control the reservation process (ice times, tournaments, etc.)
- Collect and deposit all daily revenues, including, but not limited to, monies from ice
rental fees, merchandise sales, equipment rentals, lessons, tournaments, and gift
certificate sales - Schedule and facilitate tournaments, clinics, and promotions that meet with the City’s image and priorities
- Accommodate City use of the facility for non-traditional events, including but not limited to, permitted film activity, expositions and conferences
- Provide diverse ice sports programming as well as other recreational type activities
- Attend meetings, as requested, with the City to provide updates on the Ice and
Entertainment Center-related matters - Work cooperatively and collaboratively with the City management staff to provide a
positive experience for all users - Clean and maintain the facility in a manner such that it is attractive to guests and the public
- Maintain appropriate food and beverage services while the facility is open to the public. City will coordinate with the selected proposer on the food/beverage administration for any non-traditional events.
City officials are still set to maintain oversight of certain operations, such as marketing, sponsorship, and special events.
Renovations have been underway at the ice station since the City purchased the 93,000 square-foot facility back in August for $14.2 million.
