The three children who were airlifted to nearby hospitals are “doing fine” after a car crashed into a Saugus preschool Monday afternoon.
Just before 4:40 p.m. Monday, first responders with the Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) received reports of a traffic collision on the 28400 block of Seco Canyon Road near Copper Hill Drive, said Leslie Lua, a spokesperson with the department
“Units reported a vehicle into a one-story school,” Lua said at the time.
Around the same time, Allison Adler, a mother of a young student at the La Petite Academy, received a phone call regarding her daughter.
“I was just called and told (that) a car went through the wall and that a bookshelf fell on her,” Adler told reporters Monday evening.
While Adler’s daughter was visibly shaken at first, she sustained no significant injuries. However, she and two other students were airlifted to local medical centers in accordance with LACoFD protocol.
“It was scary, but I was fortunate because she didn’t have any obvious bruises,” Adler said. “Other than being shaken, she was actually acting pretty fine.”

Adler’s daughter was taken to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, while the two others were taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center.
“They’re both doing fine,” Adler said. “I saw and said goodbye to the moms.”
Staff at La Petite Academy later told Adler that the driver of the white SUV that had crashed into the school was a grandmother who had come to pick up a student.
“I’m guessing she meant to reverse, and pushed the wrong button,” Adler said.
Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, confirmed on Tuesday that a female adult had been cited for unlicensed driving as a result of the crash, but was not taken into custody, nor found to be under the influence of any sort of controlled substance.
All three children have since been released from their respective hospitals with no significant injuries reported.
