A Canyon Country man was arrested in connection with a Kern County murder on Friday after a traffic stop.
Stewart Smith, 40, of Canyon Country, was arrested Friday afternoon on a felony murder warrant, according to Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
At around 12:30 p.m. Friday, deputies located Smith near The Old Road and Sloan Canyon Road in Castaic, according to Lt. Ethan Marquez.

“We had reports of a (murder) suspect in the Castaic area,” Marquez said at the time. “Units arrived and detained the person wanted for murder outside of L.A. County.”
Officials on scene later confirmed that the original crime Smith was wanted for occured in Kern County.
Smith was arrested without incident, and is currently being held on $700,000 bail.
