Wanted Suspect Arrested At Gunpoint On 5 Freeway After Assaulting LAPD Officer

A wanted suspect was taken into custody at gunpoint on the 5 Freeway south of the Newhall Pass Monday evening after he allegedly assaulted a Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officer earlier in the day.

Around 4:50 p.m. Monday, deputies were made aware of a vehicle wanted for assault on a LAPD officer traveling eastbound on Soledad Canyon Road near Commuter Way in Canyon Country, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

A deputy was able to locate the vehicle on Newhall Avenue near Sierra Highway, and requested emergency backup to his location prior to conducting a felony traffic stop, according to officials.

While the deputy followed the suspect vehicle until backup arrived, a pursuit was not initiated.

By the time help arrived, the vehicle was on the southbound 5 Freeway near the 210 Freeway, where officials proceeded to detain the driver at gunpoint, according to Arriaga.

Once the vehicle was stopped, deputies learned the car was stolen. Additionally, during a search of the car, deputies located a firearm which was reported stolen along with marijuana, according to officials on scene.

The driver, 28-year-old Dameion Roy of Van Nuys, was arrested for assault on a police officer, carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle, being in possession of a stolen vehicle, being in possession of a stolen firearm and being in possession of marijuana, according to Sheriff’s officials.

No information was provided on the assault of the LAPD officer.

Roy was arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s jail with bail set at $36,000, according to arrest records.
