Santa Clarita Students Featured On California Youth Leadership Summit Panel


Santa Clarita students Isabela Sandoval from Valencia High School and Grace Sun from West Ranch High School are set to join panelists at the upcoming California Youth Leadership Summit for a discussion on youth and their future.

The free online event is planned to be led by youth and young professionals, and is made for those in California and in countries where the state’s 356 “Sister Cities” are located. 

“Santa Clarita Sister Cities are so proud of Isabela and Grace, who were selected by SoCal Sister Cities, to be part of the panels,” said Dr. Claudia Acosta, Board President of Santa Clarita Sister Cities, in a statement Wednesday. “We are happy to be involved with this unique opportunity and invite our local students and young professionals to participate.”

The theme of the event is “Peace, Kindness, and Cooperation” and is scheduled for Sat., Feb. 6. from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. 

Topics are set to include world peace and cooperation, climate change and sustainability, racial equality, gender equity, and coping with the pandemic. 

Sandoval is scheduled to be part of the panel on coping with the pandemic, and Sun is set to be on the panel for climate change and sustainability. 

The Youth Leadership Summit is hosted by Sister Cities International Southern California Chapter and organized by Sister Cities International Southern and Northern California Chapters.  

Sister Cities International was founded in 1956 by President Dwight Eisenhower to “bring about peace throughout the world through citizen diplomacy.”

Santa Clarita Sister Cities is an active member of Sister Cities International. The City of Santa Clarita has two sister cities in Ecuador and the Philippines, as well as international collaborations in Nicaragua, India, and Japan.
