Non-Residents Make Up Nearly Half Of Santa Clarita Weekend Arrests

Just under half of the arrests reported in the Santa Clarita Valley over the past weekend gave home addresses from outside of the valley.

Between Friday, Jan. 22 and Sunday, Jan. 24, 34 arrests were reported by the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and California Highway Patrol Newhall Area Office.

Roughly 44 percent of those arrests were for individuals who reside outside of the Santa Clarita Valley, including three individuals from Palmdale and one from Marina Del Rey.

Of the 34 arrests, 17 arrests, or 50 percent, were related to drugs and alcohol. Nine of the drug and alcohol arrests were reported as drivers under the influence (DUI) of drugs, alcohol or both.

The other eight drug and alcohol arrests were for possession of a controlled substance.

There were a total of 11 felony charges over the weekend, the same as last weekend, with one of them including an Agua Dulce resident charged with assault with a deadly weapon involving a firearm. His bail was set at $1 million.

The investigation was reportedly prompted after the victim arrived at Henry Mayo Newhall hospital with a gunshot wound last Wednesday. The vehicle the victim arrived in also reportedly had a bullet hole in a car door, according to officials on scene.

“Deputies are out there investigating a shooting,” Lieutenant Loughridge, from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, said at the time. “The victim drove themselves to (the hospital).”

During the operation, detectives took 32-year-old Questin Walleman into custody in connection with the Canyon Country shooting.

Two of the reported weekend arrests were made for burglary, with others including two arrests for corporal injury and one arrest for grand theft auto.
