“Southern California plays a pivotal role in our country’s aerospace industry and I am thrilled to carry on advancing our nation’s future in space exploration,” Garcia said in a statement Wednesday. “I look forward to working with Ranking Member Lucas, Chairwoman Johnson, and my fellow committee colleagues as we debate and discuss critical issues regarding our nation’s science, space, and technology industries.”

Officials with Garcia’s office say that his experience as a fighter pilot in the United States Navy will bring “unique and valuable perspective to the committee due to his knowledge and experience regarding aeronautics.”
