Weldon Fire In Newhall Breaks Out Near Newhall Pass


The Weldon Fire in Newhall broke out north of the Newhall Pass Thursday evening, prompting a full first-alarm response from the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

UPDATE (6:50 p.m.): Forward progress on the Weldon Fire has been halted, with firefighters holding the blaze at 10 acres.

UPDATE (6:35 p.m.): The Weldon Fire has now reached 10 acres in size, with the potential for 25 acres, according to officials with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

UPDATE (6:20 p.m.): The Weldon Fire has reached two acres in size, doubling in acreage in roughly 10 minutes.

Original Post: Just before 6 p.m. Thursday, officials with the Los Angeles County Fire Department received reports of a brush fire along The Old Road north of the Newhall Pass.

“We’ve got a one acre brush fire, running uphill,” said Supervisor Pickett with the department.

Dubbed the Weldon Fire, due to its proximity to Weldon Canyon Road, the blaze has prompted a full first-alarm response from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, according to Pickett.

No structures were threatened, and no injuries had been reported as of 6:15 p.m. Thursday.
