Saugus High School Closed After Employees Test Positive For COVID-19

The Saugus High School campus has been temporarily closed off to both students and staff due to multiple employees testing positive for COVID-19.

Officials with the William S. Hart Union High School District announced the campus’ closure late Thursday afternoon.

“During the Winter break from school, three employees at Saugus High School tested positive for COVID-19 and were found to be epidemiologically linked,” wrote Dave Caldwell, spokesperson for the district, in an email to KHTS Thursday.

Hart District officials immediately reported this cluster of cases to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LADPH), which provided the protocols being followed at the site to prevent any further exposure to staff or students.

“Part of this process is to limit access to any possible room/area in order to allow for a thorough cleaning,” Caldwell wrote. “Therefore, the campus will be closed through January 10.”

Caldwell further clarified that while staff will be allowed to return on Monday, Jan 11, students, including after school athletic cohorts, will not be allowed back on campus until Wednesday, Jan. 13.

“Only essential staff necessary to complete control measures directed by (LADPH) are currently allowed on campus,” he wrote. “This closure only affects a small number of students who would have been on campus, and they have already been notified of the change.”

As of Wednesday, nearly 18,000 cumulative cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed within the Santa Clarita Valley since March of 2020.
