Man Arrested After Masturbating In Front Of Child In Canyon Country

A man was arrested Tuesday morning after allegedly masturbating in front of a young girl while yelling “racial slurs and profanities” at people outside of a Canyon Country grocery store back in December.

On Tuesday, deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station arrested Evan Sears, a 34-year-old transient, on charges of annoying/molesting a child, according to the station’s arrest logs.

The charge itself stems from an incident on Dec. 1, 2020, in which Sears allegedly stood outside of the Food 4 Less grocery store on the 19000 block of Soledad Canyon Road, reportedly “yelling racial slurs and profanities at people.”

“A 37-year-old mother and her 13-year-old daughter were exiting the store when Sears asked the mother some obscene questions about her daughter and then started masturbating with one hand in front of them,” wrote Sgt Joel Nebel with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s Detectives Bureau. “Both were offended by this and filed a report.”

The case was filed as a misdemeanor, and a warrant for Sears’ arrest was issued, according to Nebel.

Deputies then located Sears on Tuesday, Jan. 5, and proceeded to arrest him on that warrant.

Sears was transported to and booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail, where his bail was set at $35,000.
