Henry Mayo Hospital Announces First Baby Born In 2021

Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital announced their first baby born in 2021 on Friday.

In a series of firsts, Anthony and Recbecca Jewett welcomed their first child, Emerson Grant Jewett, the first baby born at Henry Mayo in 2021.

“I would say it was a series of firsts,” Anthony said. “It was wild. We had no kids prior, the first time. First time seeing water break, first time being admitted to the delivery ward, seeing tests done once we arrived. Everything going on… And then we have this tiny human we have all this love for.”

Rebecca’s water broke after 10 p.m. on New Years Eve, and the Jewett’s were on their way to the delivery ward at Henry Mayo by 2 a.m. in the new year.

“For the most part we were pretty calm- it was a holiday,” Anthony added. “There just wasn’t a lot of normal business hours commotion. We were all masked up throughout the whole process, thankfully we both tested negative and that would have changed the delivery plans.”

The Jewett family had been expecting the day, quarantining for two weeks prior to the delivery day. When they arrived at Henry Mayo, they were both given COVID-19 tests.

Neither Anthony nor Rebecca had expected Emerson to be the first baby born in Henry Mayo in 2021 until arriving at the hospital.

“There was talk leading up to and then radio silence,” the new father said. “Then she started dilating and we didn’t know or care… After we were told ‘you were the first ones.’”

When describing the emotions of becoming a parent and looking for the future, Anthony had this to say:

“Being a father, I’ve only got a few hours under my belt, so I don’t really know. Feelings are crazy- a lot of love for my daughter and also for my wife, who went through this. I am looking for more of the firsts, hoping to go home tomorrow, meeting the family, getting her home and adjusted, and looking forward to the things she’ll do that make us love her.”

To expecting parents, Anthony Jewett imparted the advice to “live, and love the experience. Those moments go by very quickly.”
