Supervisor Kathryn Barger Hosts Free Food Giveaway At Castaic Lake

Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger hosted a drive-through grocery giveaway at Castaic Lake Friday.

The giveaway took place Friday morning, with a line of L.A. County residents forming at 8:30 a.m., according to the supervisor’s office.

“Just in time for Christmas, we distributed groceries to 1,430 Santa Clarita households at Castaic Lake today,” Supervisor Barger said. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to partner with our dedicated community volunteers and the L.A. Regional Food Bank to ensure local families are fed this holiday season.”

The drive-through event was organized in collaboration with the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, L.A. County Department of Parks and Recreation, Department of Beaches and Harbors, L.A. County Libraries, and took place at the Castaic Lake Park Headquarters as a response to the pandemic.

No walk-ups were accepted, as the giveaway was drive-through only. Participants wore face coverings and no proof of eligibility was needed in order to participate.

Additionally, if anyone wants to get involved in future food drives by donating or volunteering, they can visit covid19.lacounty.gov/give-support for more information.

Additional food resources can be found at Cal Fresh as well as the L.A. County webpage.
