In addition to the regular curbside pick-up services offered in previous years for holiday trees, Santa Clarita residents are also encouraged to recycle their trees after the holidays by dropping them off at established drop-off centers in the City.
Recycling holiday trees is a safe and quick way to dispose of the decoration, while also utilizing curbside pick-up services. Recycled trees are repurposed into soil amendment, compost or mulch. Residents can drop off their trees at any of the listed locations beginning Saturday, Dec. 26 through Saturday, Jan. 9:
Waste Management’s Residential Drop Off Center: 25772 Springbrook Avenue, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Central Park: 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road
Newhall Community Center: 22421 Market Street
Via Princessa Metrolink Station: 19201 Via Princessa
Before disposing of trees in the green waste carts, the City asks for all ornaments, lights and tree stands to be removed and if possible, to cut trees over six feet tall. Any flocked, painted, fireproof or artificial trees are also expected to be accepted for disposal, but cannot be recycled.
Small trees, branches and wreaths can also be disposed of in the designated green waste carts for collection. Only unflocked trees can be placed on the curb.
Other forms of disposal include placing holiday trees on their curb on their regular collection day following Christmas, while multi-family property residents can place trees adjacent to bins within their complex.
Trees left curbside are expected to be picked up as in previous years, but services may be delayed one day based on available staffing, officials say.
