Insight Treatment Hour – Dialectical Behavior Therapy – December 7, 2020

On this episode of the Insight Treatment Hour, Frederik Schulin, Owner of Insight Treatment Center, talks to Dr. Marcus A. Rodriguez, PhD, Clinical Director at Boston Child Study Center, about dialectical behavior theory (DBT). DBT is designed to teach people how to handle their unregulated emotions and feelings. DBT can help a lot of people and it has quickly grown as a popular form of therapy. This type of therapy helps kids (and parents) who experience extremely strong emotions such as getting upset and being unable to relax or calm down for hours or even days. One of the main objectives of DBT is to help teens implement daily tools they can use to reduce their problem behavior and empower them to engage in activities that are beneficial to them. In addition to these daily tools, DBT also helps teen identify their emotions and helps them separate anger from fear as well as other emotions we all experience. Mindfulness is a key skill that DBT teaches to teens and this is a skill that everyone can benefit from. Listen to Marcus and Frederik explain in detail what DBT is and how it can help you or your teen.
