With the holiday season upon us, multiple agencies throughout the Santa Clarita Valley have launched in-person and virtual toy drives to help those in need.
Some of the different toy drives that are being hosted in 2020 throughout the Santa Clarita Valley including Santa Clarita Grocery, the Los Angeles County Fire “Spark Of Love” Toy Drive and the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Toy Drive.
Santa Clarita Grocery is set to host a toy drive in partnership with the California Highway Patrol Newhall Area Office starting on Dec. 1, said Bradley Grose, head of Santa Clarita Grocery.
Santa Clarita Grocery is also working with local grocery stores to donate Thanksgiving meals to families in need during the holiday season, according to Grose.
Last week Vons on Sand Canyon Road provided Santa Clarita Grocery 73 turkeys along with a box of fixings for a Thanksgiving meal for 4-5 people.
On Monday, Albertsons on Bouquet Canyon Road provided 63 turkeys along with a box of fixings for a Thanksgiving meal for 4-5 people.
Later on Wednesday, Albertsons Valencia provided 120 turkeys along with a box of fixings for a Thanksgiving meal for four to five.
Santa Clarita Valley residents wishing to drop off a toy to Santa Clarita Grocery can donate them at their warehouse Monday to Friday between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m.
The warehouse is located at 21176 Centre Pointe Parkway in Canyon Country.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department is hosting their 28th annual Spark of Love Toy Drive, where individuals are able to donate an unwrapped toy to any fire station in Santa Clarita or virtually through an online registry.
“Over the years, the Spark of Love Toy Drive has successfully collected and distributed more than nine million toys,” LACoFD officials said. “Our goal is to exceed last year’s collection of over 500,000 toys.”
Firefighters and Marines are set to join together to collect and distribute the donated new, unwrapped toys and sports equipment to underserved children and teens in Los Angeles County, according to Fire officials.
Due to the COVID-19, this year’s Spark of Love Toy Drive has added a virtual platform and accepting donations by an online registry.
However, Santa Clarita residents are still able to drop off an unwrapped toy to any fire station in Santa Clarita between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., according to Fire officials.
The 2020 Spark of Love Toy Drive is set to run now through Thursday, Dec. 24, 2020.
Another Santa Clarita toy and food drive that Santa Clarita residents can donate to is organized by the Veterans Of Foreign Wars, (VFW).
The VFW Post 6885 & 6885 Auxiliary is set to host a Christmas Toy and Food Drive, benefiting the seniors and less fortunate families throughout Santa Clarita.
There is no dollar limit for toy donations, according to VFW officials.
In addition to collecting toys, the VFW is also accepting donations of non-perishable food items.
Those interested in donating unwrapped toys or food can drop them off at the VFW’S office on Nov. 28 and 29 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Dec. 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
VFW is located at 16208 Sierra Highway, Canyon Country.
The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station is also hosting their annual Toy Drive where residents are also able to drop off an unwrapped toy to the Station located at 23740 Magic Mountain Parkway in Valencia, or at KHTS Radio, located at 24320 Main Street, in Newhall.
